Regular unprotected intercourse for at least 1 year deserves a medical evaluation if the couple can not achieve a pregnancy: The aim of the investigation must be to find the source of the problem. For all couples who can not get pregnant there is no one solution. The couple is treated according to inspection and examination. Perhaps IVF is the most successful forms of the treatments, but only one.
If egg and sperm can not meet and fertilization does not occur within the mother's reproductive tract, pregnancy will not occur naturally. This is the basis of IVF treatment which is carried out in this phase. Eggs retrieved from mother are fertilized with sperm from husband in the laboratory. The fertilized eggs are cultured in artificial environment eggs after a certain period and they are followed to see the conversion to the embryo (2-5 days) in laboratory conditions. They are placed in the uterus afterwards.
Two kinds of fertilization occur in laboratory environment. The first and more frequently used is called microinjection (ICSI) method. In this method, each of the egg from the mother is injected with the husband's sperm to fertilize by a single cell selected. In other words, active sperm is placed into the egg.
The second method is the classic IVF that fertilization of eggs takes place in a natural way by keeping the eggs in an environment filled with sperm. The fertilization occurs more naturally. But in the case of the classical problem of sperm in vitro fertilization may fail and in this case the fertilization stage is secured by microinjection method (ICSI).
However, fertilization, embryo development and embryo placed in the uterus do not guarantee healthy pregnancy. IVF procedures in the laboratory are successful over 90% of cases but in half of these patients the pregnancy does not occur.
The couple's own cells (sperm or eggs ) are used in IVF treatment. Even if required, a third party other than couple is forbidden to use in Turkey.
